Free Software Project for PostgreSQL Database Management Now Available for Mac Users

PgAdmin 4 Desktop Runtime and Web Application Combined in Convenient Package

The PgAdmin development team is pleased to announce the release of a macOS App Bundle for PgAdmin 4. This bundle includes both the PgAdmin 4 Desktop Runtime and the Web application, providing Mac users with a comprehensive solution for PostgreSQL database management.

PgAdmin is a free software project released under the PostgreSQL license. It offers a user-friendly graphical interface for managing PostgreSQL databases, including features such as database creation, table editing, query execution, and performance monitoring.

The macOS App Bundle simplifies the installation and use of PgAdmin on Mac computers. Users can simply download the bundle and drag the PgAdmin application to their Applications folder. The bundle includes all the necessary dependencies, so users do not need to install any additional software.

For users who prefer to run PgAdmin in a command-line environment, the CLI version is still available. Additionally, PgAdmin can also be run as a Docker container, which can be useful for isolating the application from the rest of the system.

To configure PgAdmin to connect to a local PostgreSQL database, users can follow these steps:

  1. Start PgAdmin by double-clicking on the application icon.
  2. In the main window, click on the "Servers" tab.
  3. Click on the "Add Server" button.
  4. Enter the hostname or IP address of the PostgreSQL server in the "Host" field.
  5. Enter the port number of the PostgreSQL server in the "Port" field.
  6. Enter the username and password for the PostgreSQL user in the "Username" and "Password" fields.
  7. Click on the "Save" button.

Once the server is added, users can connect to it by double-clicking on its name in the "Servers" tab. This will open a new window with a variety of tabs for managing the database.

The macOS App Bundle for PgAdmin 4 is a valuable tool for Mac users who need to manage PostgreSQL databases. It is free, open source, and provides a comprehensive set of features in a convenient package.
