Phillies Reinstate Taijuan Walker from Injured List

Return from Injury

The Philadelphia Phillies have reinstated right-hander Taijuan Walker from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. Walker had been out since July 19 with a blister on his right index finger.

“He’s been throwing the ball well,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. “He’s been getting his velocity back up. He’s feeling good. We’re excited to get him back.”

Struggles Before Injury

Before he went on the injured list, Walker was struggling with a 5.60 ERA in 20 starts this season. He had also allowed 110 hits and 55 walks in 102 1/3 innings.

“I think he’s just going to give us another veteran presence in the rotation,” Thomson said. “He’s a guy who’s been around. He’s had success in this league. He’s going to give us some innings. He’s going to keep us in games. He’s going to give us a chance to win.”

Expected Return

Walker is expected to make his next start on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins. It will be his first start since July 17.

“I’m just excited to get back out there and compete,” Walker said. “I’ve been working hard to get back and I’m feeling good. I’m ready to go.”

The Phillies are hoping that Walker can provide some stability to their rotation, which has been struggling lately. The Phillies have lost four of their last five games and are 3-7 in their last 10.
